Oncocytic carcinoma of the breast has also been referred to historically as malignant oncocytoma and mammary epithelial oncocytoma. It is an extremely rare form of breast cancer, and usually develops at an older age. Oncocytic breast carcinoma may develop in men as well.
Intracytoplasmic and stromal eosinophilic hyaline globules HGs have been observed in various neoplastic and nonneoplastic conditions. Thanatosomes are also such HGs seen invariably associated with increased apoptosis and may contain nuclear fragments, occasionally observed in high-grade tumors. We are reporting a case of high-grade breast carcinoma with this striking morphological feature.
Anti-Renal Cell Carcinoma antibody recognizes a kD glycoprotein localized in the brush border of the proximal renal tubule. Other tumors that may react with this antibody are parathyroid adenoma, an occasional breast carcinoma. Nephroblastoma, oncocytoma, mesoblastic nephroma, transitional cell carcinoma, and angiomyolipoma are not labeled with this antibody. Please be aware that we do not take any responsibility for accessing such information which may not comply with any legal process, regulation, registration or usage in the country of your origin.
Ectopic adrenocortical tissue may be present in many anatomical localizations. Hyperplasia, adenoma or carcinoma can occasionally develop from the ectopic adrenal tissue. Therefore, it should be surgically excised when it is detected.
Oncocytoma of the kidney is a benign tumor. Grossly, these tumors are well-circumscribed. Microscopically, the tumor cells show nested architecture with granular cytoplasm and round nuclei.
Once you have followed these steps, there will be many cases in which a final diagnosis can not be made and renal cell carcinoma is still on top of your list of differential diagnoses. Use CT and MR to look for findings that are in favor of a benign or low-grade tumor versus a high-grade renal cell carcinoma. Hemorrhagic cysts may have densities lower than 70 HU, but in these cases we also need to check the post-contrast series for any enhancement.
Accepted May 15, Published Online First: May 21, Abstract Adrenal oncocytomas are rare adrenal neoplasms which are usually large and nonfunctioning.
A risk factor is anything that affects your chance of getting a disease such as cancer. Different cancers have different risk factors. Some risk factors, like smoking, can be changed.
The hallmark of renal oncocytomas is the accumulation of mitochondria [ 3 ] and the highly diminished or complete loss of complex I CI enzyme activity within the electron transport chain [ 45 ]. Most mtDNA mutations detected in renal oncocytomas are well above the threshold for a pathogenic phenotype. The level of heteroplasmy can vary between cells in the same tissue or organ, and the proportion of mutant mtDNA determines the penetrance and severity of disease expression [ 7 ]. Nonetheless, why and how mutated mtDNA specifically accumulates in oncocytomas still remains unclear.
